i have found a piece of rope through a sov's marching loop can work really well if you don't find a better option... good luck!
and if no rings, also works with looping around the bottom and top bow to take the weight.
extremely agrictural - but whatever works!

Re: resonance v projection (also: what is warmth and where are my overtones)
It would be cool to see someone come out with "hey, my instrument gives measurably different overtones / harmonics - have a look at this"
This is *exactly* why I don't post here often. Your answer was in the first reply. Sometimes you might need to ... ya know ... click the links.

Re: resonance v projection (also: what is warmth and where are my overtones)
Wikipedia has an excellent article on the subject insofar as human perceptions of sound are concerned. But it does not address issues of sound production involving harmonics and intermodulation found in musical instruments. The audio application cited a few posts ago seems to do that well but I ...

Re: resonance v projection (also: what is warmth and where are my overtones)
Words to describe music and sound are difficult to apply and confusing... I believe that's why there is music, and not just words about music. That's probably also why it's good to have a studio teacher who's also a good player and not just a wordsmith.
absolutely! i agree words are not the ...

Re: resonance v projection (also: what is warmth and where are my overtones)
Using a microphone and an oscilloscope with a FFT feature it will visually display the harmonic characteristics of any sound the microphone can pick up. So if one cared to and had the time, one could record various tubas being played by the same player and view the harmonic series each produced ...

resonance v projection (also: what is warmth and where are my overtones)
Sometimes I see tubas (and mouthpieces!) advertised as having resonance and/or projection and/or having a warm sound.
There is a little bit of subjectivity around what "warmth" is (I say this objectively).
Is it the case that resonance and/or projection are more scientific and able to be ...

Anyone have a Denis Wick 1 or 2 (non-L), or Perantucci 'XS', or other small-shank-for-old-UK-instrument mouthpiece they would like to move on? Let me know!

strap/harness for a 2XJ
hi!
i am looking around for ways to do some standing/roving/marching with a conn 2XJ, ideally without reinvtenting the wheel.
i've seen mention of Jacksonville State marching with 20Js with 'drum straps and carabiners', and i have seen the neotech tuba harnesses online.
does anyone have advice ...

I currently have one that is getting tweaked in the shop that should be available under $2000 after he gets done with it. I am located in Indianapolis. If that is of interest, send me an email at Trippb@sharpusa.com and communicate easier than through this if you like. Thanks, Bernie

WTB: Besson New Standard BBb (4v)
I am looking around for ideally a Besson New Standard BBb with 4 valves, and or a Boosey Imperial BBb with 4 valves.
The 'just pre-Sovereign' type would be perfect. 19 inch be would be amazing.
If anyone has one, or sees one, let me know.

'original mouthpiece' for a 1950s Imperial tuba
I love my 1950s Imperial BBb bass (with three valves and a brilliant 17 inch bell).
I play it with a Wick 1 and we make beautiful music together. I think it is the most in-tune tuba I've played.
Does anyone know what the standard mouthpiece-of-the-time would have been? Did it come from the ...
